Coconut Almond Beverage

The marketing on the front is trying to sell us this as a healthy option – gluten free, dairy free, soy free which are all great things BUT does the benefit outweigh the potential downside?

Would I Consume this?

No this is a BIG NO for me – too much sugar AND sweeteners AND too many ‘flavours’. This is not going to make me feel very good long-term and would probably cause my stomach to bloat.

What's the breakdown?

SUGAR TYPE / SWEETENERS: This drink is 50% coconut water which contains sugar – it might be natural but its still sugar and at over 6g per serve it is more than the daily recommended limit for sugar. Now the kicker, it also contains TWO artificial sweeteners (Aspartame, Stevia) linked to weight gain, lowered mood, gut dysfunction, headaches, depression, nausea, mental confusion and possibly cancer according to studies.

ALMOND: The almond component is almond paste and almond flavour so for me is missing plain old almonds

SALT: Does not tell us what type so probably highly processed and refined which is not optimal for health or weight loss.

FLAVOURS: This is a generic term which can refer to a whole host of things and most often these are man-made and toxic to the body.

EMULSIFIER 473: Something I prefer to avoid for both health and weight loss – emulsifiers have the potential to damage the intestinal barrier, leading to inflammation and increasing our risk of chronic disease.
